Second Week in Bali: Finding calm

Running around and twitching eyelid in paradise??

Today it’s half time for me in Bali. I have 14 days left before I step into the plane with destination Frankfurt Germany. And I have to say it was not at all a period of turning inside or tranquility. It was a lot to organize, emails sending, scheduling and rescheduling, booking additional nights, planning where to eat, when to rent a scooter and where to go next.

Busy research trip is getting to its peak…and making me sick

Of course you might think: Oh kiddo, that’s all you worry about? Where to have lunch this day? Where to get a tea break?
Well yes and more. Being a freelance blogger and writer means that you are 100% responsible for everything. No agency booking your tickets, no editorial telling you where to go to report. It’s all yourself. Your idea, your planning, your scheduling, your responsibility, your money investing in realizing your project.

Result of 14 days running around: twitching eyelid

And our nervous system reacts to everything. If you have a busy mind, your body is getting stressed as well. So it’s not a surprise that my right eyelid is twitching. My nerves (and my magnesium level in the body) are telling me: Hello there, we need some calm and quietness. Stop thinking about answering emails, communicating with yoga studio owners, or checking in your mind the different time schedule of the yoga classes. Take a break. Be present and relax.

What happened that I am such a bundle of nerves?

First point: I was moving around all the time. During the last 14 days I changed place 4 times: 2 nights Canggu at fabulous Desa Seni village resort, 3 nights North Bali in Kubu, 3 nights Canggu again (visiting 4 schools in 2 days), 3 nights Gili Air and finally in Ubud since Sunday. And I honestly don’t wanna leave again (and probably I won’t).

Finally in Ubud, feeling home

When I sat in the car from Padang Bai to Ubud, 7pm on Sunday, I already had a strange feeling…like I was driving home without knowing the place. I booked a homestay (after having stayed in different guesthouses) called Nyoman Warta. And it was the best decision I’ve done in this whole trip I think. Kadek welcomed me like a friend, I got a cozy and clean room with hot water and aircon. The breakfast is the best I had in Bali (and probably the best I will ever have) and the kindness of the family is making it a perfect stay. I feel so safe and welcome that I don’t wanna leave anymore.

Where I was and where I go for Yoga in Bali

Before Ubud I have been in Canggu. Second time for me. I still needed to visit a few Yoga places. I enjoyed local teachers at Pranava Yoga, 90 minutes of Yin Yoga with Nick at The Practice, had a great talk with Samadi owner Andréa from Sweden and also said hello to the bit more chaotic environment of Serenity Yoga.

Then moved to Gili Air to enjoy a bit more of a natural environment and ocean energy. There I was supposed to visit Mandala Blue. They hold their yoga classes just in front of the ocean. It’s stunning. But woman’s cycle interrupted and wanted me to rest. So no Vinyasa or Ashtanga Yoga class for me (no Yin Yoga that time).

Getting organized

After 3 days here in Ubud I also have set the schedule for my next 14 days. I just stay at Nyoman Warta until next Tuesday (so in total 9 nights), and then I go to Anand Krishna Ashram for a real Ashram experience. After that I just booked a few nights in Shanti Toya Ashram to finish my Bali adventure with some calm, nature and of course Yoga.

So that’s for now. Soon I will post more stuff about the actual interviews I am doing, and the places I visited. There will be one little Yoga Guide for Canggu and Ubud. Stay yogic!
Om Shanti

Joanna
